| Yellow fever
vaccination is currently recommended before visiting Foz do
Iguaçu. Please note that a yellow fever vaccination
takes approximately 10 days to become effective.
Vaccination against yellow fever is commonly recommended
for all travellers when visiting the following states of Brazil:
Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Distrito Federal, Goiás,
Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia,
Roraima and Tocantins. However, due to recently (December
2007 and January 2008) confirmed cases of yellow fever contracted
in forest areas of middle western states of Brazil (Goiás
and Mato Grosso), the Brazilian health authorities decided
to recommend that visitors to the Foz do Iguaçu region
also be vaccinated against this disease. No vaccination would
be recommended for visiting only the main entrance cities
in Brazil (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro), since the
country has not had a case of urbane yellow fever since 1942.
If there is any doubt about the need for vaccinations, please
contact the nearest Brazilian
Embassy or Consulate
